The Portville Historical and Preservation Society has recently opened its museum to the public. The project that began in 2010 to restore the former home of Col. Charles Eshelman was extensive.
To help promote the new Portville museum, we are holding the banquet outside under a huge tent in the backyard of the house at Bedford Corners. The event will be held on the evening of Friday, July 15, 2022. The museum and schoolhouse will be open for you and your classmates to get nostalgic and see what they have on display. The guests will start arriving at 5:00 and the buffet dinner will begin at 7:00 pm. A cash bar will be available during this time for socializing.
The address is 1301 Portville-Obi Road, Portville (corner of Route 305 and Deer/Dodge Creek Roads).
As an added incentive to alumni, we are waiving the annual dues again this year, which have been $5.00 per alumnus in past years. Guests have never paid dues. This year, the dinner cost to you and your guest is the just the meal, with gratuities already included, a total of $33.00 per person.
Last year we had 138 for the dinner so we are planning the event for 150 people.
BUSINESS MEETING
Every year there is a banquet, a business meeting convenes after everyone has had their meal. This is our opportunity to acknowledge and award our Portville Alumni Scholarship to a deserving senior that is continuing their education beyond high school. All seniors are given the opportunity of applying. The chosen winner will receive a monetary award of $750.00 to be paid to the college, university, or trade school of their choice. The school staff nominates a Junior Class student that also receives an award we call the Junior Alumni Award.
The Charles Bretzin Jr. Award, sponsored by Charles and Jean Bretzin and family, will also be given out, honoring a senior who has been successful in the Portville Student Council. We take a silent moment of prayer, in memoriam, to pay tribute to our classmates who have passed away during the prior year and others that we just found out about this year. We also re-elect officers for the association for the coming year.
